Altshuler has successfully launched two vanguard companies that have expanded the creative vision of advertising while targeting niche audiences. With his experience in advertising, branding, production, music and marketing,
Marc is a forward-thinking executive whose expertise and insight can help drive companies towards their next growth platform.
Altshuler is a Manhattan native who was heavily influenced by the music stylings of the 1980’s. Growing up in New York City - the epicenter of fashion, film and art - Marc learned the power of a brand at an early age. He started his career as a doorman at a nightclub, immersing himself in the music scene. Later he went on to work for Details magazine in the marketing department when the magazine was at peak popularity. From there, Marc turned his attention to advertising and spent several years at a music house, where he was able to synthesize all of his experience and began working as a producer. In 2001 Marc seized upon a niche opportunity in the marketplace, and with three of his colleagues, created the innovative music house, Human.
With Human, Altshuler created a unique service, building the largest and most successful music production company. He set up offices in New York, London and Los Angeles and produced original music for over 500 television commercials a year, for the biggest names in media. Some of Altshuler’s clients included Coca-Cola, Xbox, Nike, Apple, Facebook and Beats just to name a few. In 2004 Altshuler produced the music, composed by Human, for the world's most watched television commercial of all time – Coca-Cola "Happiness Factory". A mnemonic pulled from that track is used to this day, on the end of every Coca-Cola commercial.
Human won numerous advertising awards, including 16 Cannes Lions, 14 Clios, 11 London International Advertising Awards and 4 Andy Awards. Additionally, Human also composed the music for “Logorama”, the 16-minute French animated film written and directed by H5. The film won the Prix Kodak at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival and the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 82nd Academy Awards.
In 2015, seeing that the use of commercial music was changing, Marc decided to switch gears. Altshuler decided to launch a new company, Cartel, a post house dedicated to bringing together top talent paired with some of the industries top clients. Successful right out of the gate, Cartel created two spots for Under Armour, “USA Women’s Gymnastics,” and “Michael Phelps” directed by Martin de Thurah out of Droga5. Each won a Silver Lion at Cannes, and the Michael Phelps spot they created won the Grand Prix in Film in 2016.
Over the years, Marc has won numerous awards but what he is most proud of is building two cutting-edge companies. When not working, Marc can most likely be found taking in the latest art exhibit, studying up on architecture trends and building his photography collection.
